Apistogramma Nijsseni is a lovely freshwater fish, known only from tributaries of the Río Ucayali in Loreto Region, northern Peru and Río Yavarí. This dwarf Cichlid fish inhabits slow-moving blackwater streams, creeks and tributaries, as well as smaller rivers. The water they lived in is typically stained dark brown with humic acids and other chemicals released by decaying organic material.
